"What could be more important than a little something to eat?' - Pooh Bear

Hello!
So I've been a busy bee again recently - starting a new job and graduating from university *woop* and I would like to use my one day off a week to do some blogging, so I thought i'd get together a plan of things to write about and feature... that's where you come in!

What sort of things would you like to see/read about?
Lifestyle posts, recipes, advice, reviews etc or anything else! Please let me know below what you'd be interested in reading about. :)

Jordane

Hello! This is going to be a little post about where we stayed on our recent adventure in Wales. It was all a bit last minute and spontaneous which I think is what made it so lovely. A quick Google search for vegetarian accommodation in Wales quickly brought our attention to the Trericket Mill, about a 15 minute drive from the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
We stayed in the self catering eco cabin which is just around the corner from the all vegetarian B&B, run by a lovely couple. We had breakfast and dinner there the day after we arrived as we were both so tired and fancied being treated to some tasty food.

Breakfast was so much more than we hoped for! We were greeted by a table full of different cereals, home-made jams, honey, dairy/soya yoghurt, fresh fruit and delicious home-made museli soaked in apple juice. We shared a pot of tea to set us up for the day and I also had some of their fresh local apple juice (which was so nice I bought a bottle to take home with me...)

George then went for the 'full monty' breakfast which included a homemade tomato and herb 'sausage' and scrambled eggs from their lovely little 'very free range' hens, as well as beans, potatoes, tomatoes & mushrooms (which George ordered without). I let Alistair know I was vegan and was offered a delicious tofu & mushroom scramble on toast.

After a busy day of walking and exploring, we were in need of some grub to refuel.
Every day they change their menu, using fresh, local ingredients which I always think is a really nice idea.

They also had plenty of options to choose from, from a 2/3 course meal, a simple supper or a fancy 'pie and mash' (the pies are all veggie and supplied by a local independent company)

We went for the 2 course meal which included Alistair's yummy homemade falafel, salad and a selection of Nicky's homemade chutneys for a starter. For the main we had an aubergine, roasted red pepper & butterbean tagine with couscous, sweet potato and spring greens.

It sounds like a whole lot of food but the portion sizes were just right - enough to get a little food baby but not feel so uncomfortable afterwards.
I am noticing that portion sizes are becoming important when eating out as we really hate wasting food (especially if we've paid a bit more for it) so this is something we'll probably be noting in future.

If you are ever planning to go to Wales we highly recommend this place. The owners are so friendly and helpful, the location is beautiful and the food is yummy - what more could you ask for! Also, it's all really reasonably priced. We really hope we can come back in the future.

So we just got back from our little adventure in Wales. After finishing my degree we both figured we deserved a break and what better place to go than one of the most beautiful places in England - the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. We will be doing a separate post all about it/the places we visited/food we munched etc, but for now I'd like to share with you my own little recipe for a sort of granola/flapjack bar type thing - We're calling them Superfuel bars because they really do give you a little boost of energy (which is something we needed after a morning 5 mile canoe down the river Wye) This recipe is pretty much just a basic guide as you can add/remove anything you want - it's something I am still experimenting with and always coming up with new combinations, so i'd love to see what you come up with too. They are full of healthy things and give you a natural energy boost as opposed to the not-so-healthy sugar filled supermarket bars.
Any questions just ask - hope you enjoy!

Ingredients
2 really ripe mashed bananas
2 cups of oats
1/4 cup almond milk
1/3 cup apple sauce
1 Tbsp cinnamon/mixed spice

*Mix together and then add your favourite extras*

1 Tbsp flax seed / chia seed (I used both)
1/4 cup raisins (you could use sultanas, diced dates, cranberries... it's up to you!)
1/4 cup seeds/nuts (I used a mix of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds & golden linseed)
1/4 cup desiccated coconut

*Mix & bake!*

Line a square baking tin with baking parchment / lightly grease with coconut oil
Bake at Gas 4 / 180 degrees C for 15-25 minutes
Let them cool before cutting into bars

These are really good to take with you on the go, as a post-workout snack (as there is lots of natural protein in there) or just as a healthier alternative to a flapjack with your cuppa.
:)

So just as this blog started up we had to stop it (due to Jordane's university commitments) but now she has pretty much finished we can get back to posting again! We've been to some really awesome places over the last few months and can't wait to share them all with you. We've also upped our game in the kitchen so will hopefully be making and sharing our own recipes too.

Moorish Falafel Bar - Lower Goat Lane
One of our all time favourite go-to places in our Fine City, is the absolutely delicious Moorish Falafel. Finding this gem was a dangerous discovery, as we often end up heading there at least once/twice... ok maybe three times a month. It's excellent value for money and I am pretty sure there is something there for everyone.

More often than not there will be a small queue, but that's for a very good reason! The staff are always very efficient, helpful, smiley and just generally a bunch of lovely people.
The menu is full of tasty choices - they have the option of a pitta or salad - I usually go for the salad and George opts for a white pitta (which are huge by the way) - and you can pick and choose different extras, such as my favourites tabbouleh, guacamole or aubergine.
Their falafels are some of the best I've tasted (and believe me, i've eaten a whole lotta falafel) deep fried and full of fresh flavours. Their crisp house salad and hummus can be topped with their signature dressings - tahini, yoghurt and mint or chilli - and it compliments the whole meal perfectly!

When we go, it's often a post-gym visit (or we're just generally feeling a bit naughty) so end up ordering one of their homemade vegan cakes, either a rocky road or peanut butter millionaires shortbread.

George will have a Moorish white pitta (three falafels, hummus, house salad and lettuce) with no sauces which is £3.50 to take away or £4.20 to eat in. I have the salad box (house salad, hummus, three falafels, lettuce, one filling) with tahini and chilli, which is £4.50 out & £5.40 in
Moorish always have little meal deals on, such as a salad box with homemade lemonade or fresh mint tea.

We cannot recommend Moorish enough - 10/10!

Hello! It has been a hectic couple of weeks for us both - George has been super busy working and I have just started my third and final year at university *scary* (it seemed we started our blogging plans at the wrong time) and we have struggled to fit time in to relax.
However, this weekend was our 2 year anniversary and we thought what better reason to try out a new place to eat than celebrating our two years together.

House
I have always heard excellent things about House and was also recently recommended it by my mum so it was a no brainer! We decided to try out their famous breakfasts (we promise this won't just be a breakfast blog - thats what our friend The Fry Up Inspector is for - however there are so many delicious ones on offer we will definitely be doing a few more at least...) and were not disappointed!
The cafe itself is beautifully decorated - it's cosy and very welcoming. We got there 5 minutes after it opened and it was already almost full so we knew we were in for something good.
I was very pleased to see a wide selection of loose leaf teas and opted for an earl grey with soya milk & George had a big glass of orange juice. I also saw they offer soya 'milkshakes' which I may have to go back for one day...
I am also a huge sucker for vintage china - is it just me or does it make tea taste so much better?

There was an excellent range of food to choose from and there was a very good selection of vegetarian options available. We both had the full veggie/vegan breakfasts without mushrooms - I opted for extra tomato and George had an extra hash brown.
The service was very friendly and we barely had to wait for our food to arrive.

And here is the feast of a breakfast...

This was my vegan full english: Roasted tomatoes, baked beans, 3 sausages, 2 hash browns & ciabatta toast with soya spread.

The veggie also included Quorn 'bacon' and an egg.

The food was delicious, however, we did think it would have been a nice touch had they made their own veggie sausages (I think they were Linda McCartney's) but this is by no means a negative as we are always grateful to visit places with meat free alternatives. The ciabatta was a really nice change to sliced toast and the tomatoes were roasted to perfection.
Personally, I found the portion size way to big to finish, but George soon gobbled it all up. Maybe a word of warning if you don't do well with big meals, maybe in future I would ask for a smaller portion.
The veggie was £7 and the vegan was £6 - so excellent value for money especially considering the amount of deliciousness you get on your plate!

We were both very happy here and would definitely visit again!

... and our favourite!
We also thought what better way to get our blog up and running than to make our first post about that all important first meal - breakfast <3

Sundays are our full day off together and we like to make the most of it. After a busy week of working and the stresses of life getting in the way, we thought it would be nice to go out for breakfast, which is something we have never really done. We were faced with so many options in our beautiful home city of Norwich, which grows ever more full with delicious cafes and restaurants by the second! I had recently heard about a completely vegan breakfast which even included it's own version of black pudding and so we decided to hunt it out...

Tucked away down the Lanes of Norwich is Franks Bar, a cafe/bar filled with good food, drinks and a real chilled out atmosphere. They do their own special Sunday breakfast menu which includes the vegan/veggie breakfast (and of course the good old full english) bagels and pancakes... yum.
It's has two floors - both of which were almost completely full so I suggest getting there early to secure yourself a table as I can imagine it's always pretty popular! We found ourselves a cosy corner on the 1st floor and didn't have too wait long at all before placing our order and later receiving our food.

This was the vegan full english and looking at this picture makes me want to eat it all over again, it was so tasty!
It included a roasted tomato and mushroom stack, vegan black pudding, sauté potatoes, herby baked beans, granary toast & salad. For someone who isn't a huge mushroom eater I actually really enjoyed these, they were cooked and seasoned really well and didn't last too long on the plate... The 'black pudding' was delicious. It had a similar taste and texture to stuffing but whatever they used to make it, it sure was yummy! We both really love our beans and thoroughly enjoyed Franks herby additions.

George's vegetarian version included an extra of halloumi cheese and a choice of scrambled, poached or fried egg. The vegan breakfast was £6 and the vegetarian was £6.50.
Super duper good value for money!
We weren't feeling too adventurous with our drinks and both had a good old cuppa and I was pleased to see they had soya milk available too.

Franks Bar is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10am. They also serve some absolutely amazing looking food (lots of gluten free and vegan options) for brunch and lunch, so we will definitely be going back again sometime soon and testing out some more tasty treats!
